Running Rambles and Raves: World Champions, Olympians, and Asics

What a week!! I can’t say that I really remember what happened on Monday! Ever have one of those weeks?! The last couple of days I remember, though, and I thought I would share them with you! 🙂 The Drake Relays started Wednesday night. They kicked off with an exhibition pole vault competition at the Jordan Creek Town Center Mall. This year featured the top five men and women in the United States, many who have gone to the Olympics and hold U.S. records. The #1 ranked woman, Jenn Suhr, is also the top pole vaulter in the world. Pretty awesome to be able to see such talent and athleticism in one place and up close!

Lots of people turned out for the two hour competition! We had a perfect spot on the second level.

Jenn Suhr broke the record for the highest jump at this competition with a jump of 15′ 7″/4.75m. Here is video of this incredible jump! (You will want to mute the volume because my poor little camera that I had with me couldn’t handle all of the noise very well!)

Brad Walker, the 2012 U.S. indoor champion, won the event with a jump of 18′ 9 1/4″/5.72m. Here is his jump. You’ll want to mute this one, too. 🙂

If Wednesday night wasn’t exciting enough for a track fanatic such as myself, Thursday afternoon I was able to meet Olympian Lolo Jones. An incredible hurdler/sprinter with an incredible story. Check out her story here and her personal site here. It’s definitely worth the read. She overcame all odds to get to where she is today. So inspiring!

So fun to talk with her and see what a humble, witty person she is!

And lastly, in my long running ramble, I just had to share these shoes! Asics Gel Lyte33 – Can’t wait until June. 🙂

Be sure to check out the Running Warehouse blog to read more.

Hope you all have a great weekend and some good runs! 🙂
